7 Recommended MongoDB World Sessions

Next week the Redis team is attending MongoDB World. We’re planning to spend most of our the time at the booth (#110) and we would love it if you’d stop over! We have #RedisGeek tees and stickers to give out, a drone you can win, and of course talking shop about Redis is also an option 😛

As for myself, time permitting, I’ll be using this opportunity to obtain some quality education about MongoDB. I’m the first to admit that my MongoDB fu is sub-par, so I’ve prepared a list of “must attend” sessions that I plan to check out. Here are my recommendations.

Firstly, to truly grok any DMBS, you need to understand how it reads and writes data. That’s why I’ve marked down these two cuties:

  1. Day 1, 11:00am-11:40am: Replication Internals: The Life of a Write
  2. Day 2, 5:00pm-5:40pm: The Query Engine: The Life of a Read

Next, since MongoDB is disk-based, if you want it running at top speed you need to know how it uses RAM and the best approaches to make it performant, ergo:

  1. Day 1, 11:50am-12:30pm: Basic Ops Skills and Tools for Beginners
  2. Day 1, 1:30pm-2:10pm: Improve Availability and Performance of MongoDB Workloads in Production
  3. Day 1, 4:00pm-4:40pm: MongoDB Memory Management Demystified

The last two sessions I’ve picked address MongoDB’s use with other interest areas of mine, namely the Cloud and Big Data. These sessions are:

  1. Day 2, 11:00am-11:40am: High Performance MongoDB on Storage-Optimized AWS EC2
  2. Day 2, 3:10pm-3:50pm: MongoDB and Hadoop: Driving Business Insights

So there you have it – my plans for the event (assuming life doesn’t get in the way too much). If you want to book a meeting slot, feel free to contact Cameron (via email or twitter) or myself. Questions? Feedback? Email or tweet me – I’m highly available 🙂
