Cloud Developer Survey Highlights Performance Struggles and Debunks SQL vs. NoSQL Misconception

Redis reveals key findings about the evolving database landscape

Santa Clara, December 23, 2014—Redis, the leading commercial Redis provider, today released the results of its latest survey detailing database usage among developers who use cloud technologies. The survey was conducted with over 100 AWS (Amazon Web Services) re:Invent conference attendees in 2014.

Redis is an open source in-memory NoSQL database that has taken the developer community by storm. The fastest data store available today, Redis is used for high performance use cases such as high speed transactions, real time analytics, counting and ranking, job management, and social capabilities. Redis was created by Salvatore Sanfilippo.

Achieving a 1.2 million transaction benchmark is extremely costly and complex to achieve using traditional disk resources a database sets. “Redis is alone when it comes to performance, it’s simply the best choice out there,” say Ofer Bengal, CEO & Co-Founder at Redis. “For developers building apps on the AWS cloud, Redis Cloud by Redis is a naturally the best choice to build fast, scalable, and responsive apps.”

This research revealed several key insights:

“It’s no surprise that NoSQL has become a mainstay in the developer stack,” said Cameron Peron, vice president of marketing at Redis. “Developers clearly demand high performance, and Redis, providing such low latency and blazing fast speed, has quickly risen to become a naturally dominant solution.”

Redis recently announced a benchmark of 1.2 million transactions per second at less than one millisecond latency with its Redis Cloud hosted service over a single Amazon Web Service (AWS) EC2 instance.
