Fresh produce, fresh data: Food producer syncs data in real time with Azure Managed Redis

The Challenge
Bridging the cloud-on-prem data divide
The customer’s legacy system involved direct queries from on-prem SQL to Azure Synapse views via a linked server. This frequently caused query timeouts exceeding 30 minutes meaning:
- Delayed data availability
- Missed SLAs
- Operational inefficiencies
- Scalability bottlenecks
A new approach was essential for enabling seamless, fast, and reliable data flow.
Real-time delta sync for operational agility
Azure Managed Redis became central to their revamped data strategy, enabling efficient, near-real-time synchronization. Architected by C2S, the solution offloads data processing to a cloud-based pipeline.
Powering a modern, event-driven data pipeline
High-Speed In-Memory Caching for Efficient Delta Processing.
Azure Managed Redis, with its exceptional in-memory performance, serves as the critical component for rapid data comparison and delta detection. Redis quickly ingests CSV data (via the App Service) and compares it against the previously cached state to identify changes.
Instead of reprocessing and transmitting full datasets every cycle (e.g., every 15 or 30 minutes depending on the data type), the system identifies and transmits only incremental changes. This significantly reduces network traffic, offloads downstream systems, and shortens the time it takes for updates to appear on-prem. The cached snapshot is then updated to prepare for the next cycle.
Enabling a resilient and decoupled event-driven architecture
By centralizing delta detection in Redis, the solution decouples on-prem systems from costly cloud queries. The architecture—designed and implemented by C2S—ensures efficient, reliable data flow while safeguarding operations from excessive loads by aborting jobs that exceed a 200,000-record threshold.
Conclusion
The C2S-led deployment of Azure Managed Redis resolved critical timeouts and slashed data latency from 40+ minutes to sub-30 seconds for incremental updates. These improvements empower more responsive, data-driven decision making. Early results show major gains in performance, reliability, and scalability—positioning this fresh food producer for future-ready data operations.
